The spokesperson of the Delta Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, has reacted to the ongoing protest by youths against alleged police brutality and extortion in Ughelli.
Explaining the reasons behind the ongoing protest, the PPRO, in a statement posted on his X account said policemen from the Ughelli Area Command had on February 13, 2024, intercepted an unregistered Benz GLK without a plate number in the Ekuigbo community.
The occupants of the vehicle, four boys, could not establish ownership of the car.
In an attempt to arrest the boys, some youths attacked the policemen, destroyed their vehicle, and broke the head of one of the officers.
Edafe said nine of the suspects were arrested over the unprovoked attack.
He warned youths to desist from the protest, adding that no amount of their protest would deter the police from doing its job.
