There was jubilation at Onipanu Bus Stop along Ikorodu road in Lagos State after a pregnant woman was delivered of a baby boy by emergency responders.
The mother of the new baby was said to be waiting for a bus when she unexpectedly went into labour on Monday morning, February 19, 2024.
The Permanent Secretary in charge of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Olufemi Oke Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident said officials including paramedics from its Fadeyi office were dispatched to the scene upon receiving the distress call by bystanders at the bus stop.
“On February 19, 2024, at approximately 9 am, the Agencies Emergency Response Team received a distress call from neighborhood and bystanders at Onipanu bus stop in respect of a heavily pregnant woman who unexpectedly went into labour at the bus stop while waiting to board a bus,” he said.
“LRT and the agency’s paramedics moved in swiftly in collaboration with some market women at the bus stop, provided a temporary makeshift in ensuring the safe delivery of the baby and the well-being of the mother
“Fortunately, the woman was successfully delivered of a bouncing baby boy amidst jubilation.
“The agency’s officials after stabilising the mother and newborn infant quickly transported them to the nearest hospital for further medical care and attention.”
